INSIDE: What three habits make you your BEST you? Been a while since you did them? In this post, I show you how to be your best self EVERY day by bringing them back! Includes a FREE HABIT TRACKER for you to download so you can track your progress too!
If I was to ask you what three activities you like to do, the three activities that make you feel good and help you to be your best self every single day, what would you say?
Is it drinking more water? Getting some kind of daily exercise? Curling up with a good book? Or something else?
Ponder on this question for a few moments and then ask yourself when you last did them. If it’s been a while, maybe it’s time to bring them back!
How to be your BEST self every day…
We all have things we like to do that make us feel good. Activities that make us happy and make us feel calm, energised and refreshed. Habits that help us to become the best version of ourselves. But sometimes, even though we know they’re good for us and we enjoy doing them, we don’t do them as often as we could.
Whether it’s a case of life getting in the way or the fact that we’re distracted by other things, we simply forget to do them. Telling ourselves “I’ll do it tomorrow” or “I’ll start again Monday”, the weeks and months pass by and before we know it, the habit of doing the things that make us feel good has slipped.
Just lately, this has definitely been the case for me. And it wasn’t until I took part in a challenge with some of my fellow networking friends that I realised just how much I’d let my best habits slide.
Doing what you love…
Tasked with identifying three things I like to do, three things that make me feel great but I’ve not done for a while, the challenge was to spend two weeks working to bring them back into my life. To make them a daily goal, to follow through and reform the habits I’d let fall to the wayside.
And do you know what? It was AMAZING!
Not only was it fun to share the process with the others taking part, I realised I’d forgotten just how much I liked doing these things. I’d forgotten just how great they made me feel and I found myself wondering why I’d stopped doing them in the first place.
I realised just how silly of me it had been to let them slip because I REALLY enjoyed doing them. And, in just two short weeks I’d become a much happier and calmer person. I felt more relaxed and it felt good to know that I was finally making time for me again. And, by having a little time for me to do the things I loved to do, I’d reclaimed some of the motivation I’d lost. I’d discovered new-found energy for the goals I’d been neglecting.
So, what were the three things I brought back into my life that have made such a difference? They were:
- Getting up one hour before everyone else to read, journal and work on my blog.
- Switching off my PC at 9pm every evening so that I had an hour to unwind before bed.
- Reading a minimum of 10-20 minutes per day and finishing at least one book.
Becoming a better me…
By committing to doing these three things every single day for two weeks, not only did I feel better in myself, I discovered that it was possible to be more intentional about how I spend my time. I realised that whilst I often think I don’t have time to do the things that help me to become a better me, the reality is I do. I just wasn’t making them a priority.
But when I started making them a priority, the difference they made to my life was amazing. No longer did I feel like I was playing catch up all day. Nor was I going to bed feeling frustrated by all the things I hadn’t managed to do. I had time to journal and I had time to read. Switching off my PC gave me more time with my husband and I had time to unwind before bed – which meant I got a better night’s sleep too.
The benefits of reading more have been tenfold too. By far one of my most favourite things to do, I really missed it and that pile of unread books frustrated me more than I can tell you. But by reading just a few pages each day I was able to finish a whole book in just one week – something I haven’t done for years! Reading more has made me calmer, my ability to stay focused and concentrate has improved and it’s given me the opportunity to escape from the daily grind – even if it’s just for a few minutes.
How to be your best self every day…
By doing the challenge I’ve discovered that those habits I’d let slip really do help me to become a better version of myself. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that now the challenge is over, I’m a little worried I’ll fall off the wagon. But I’m going to try my very best to keep the momentum going because I’m LOVING how doing them is making me feel.
Becoming a better you…
And now it’s your turn…what habits help you to be your best self every day? What three activities or habits do you enjoy doing? And when was the last time you did them? What three habits can you bring back that would help you to become the best version of yourself?
