This week I did something really exciting – I stepped out of my comfort zone BIG TIME and did my first Facebook Live. Well, kind of live…technology failed us and we had to record offline, but the intention was there! I have to confess that the introvert in me was absolutely terrified of being live on video, but do you know what? It was actually a lot of fun and nowhere near as scary as I thought it’d be! So what was the topic?
Recorded for the Facebook group Journey Through the Guilt Trip, I shared my top three tips on how to make life simpler.
Life doesn’t have to be complicated…
If you’ve ever found yourself wishing life was a little less complicated, that you didn’t have quite so much on your plate, you’ll LOVE the things Lee Lam and I discussed. From relieving ourselves of the guilt of trying to live up to unrealistic expectations to the one thing you need to do if you want to be truly happy, we chatted all about how to take back control and make life simpler.
We talked about how we all put far too much pressure on ourselves. That because we want to be the perfect wife, perfect friend and perfect mum, we place unrealistic expectations on ourselves to be the best and do the best ALL THE TIME. But it’s just not possible. We cannot do it all, no matter how much we might like to or think we should. Trying to do everything just stresses us out. It overwhelms us and makes life far more complicated than it needs to be.
Despite what we might think, we don’t need to do it all. And sometimes, it’s OK to say no. We don’t need to be everywhere and do everything to feel like we’ve achieved or we’re a success. There’s so much more to life than having the biggest house, newest car and tons of money in the bank.
How to make life simpler…
The reality is that life is only as complicated as we choose to make it. The more we say yes to, the more we take on, the more we live to serve others instead of ourselves, the more complicated life becomes. Most of the time, we have a choice over what we say yes to. We just need to be honest about how much we can realistically take on. If something is going to complicate life rather than keep things simple, we should be saying no.
But what if life is already complicated? What if it’s already got to the point that we’re stressed out and overwhelmed and we can’t take much more? How do we uncomplicate things and make life simpler? Find out by watching the video.
