Part One: How to love your life
Have you ever felt stuck in a rut, frustrated with the family life you are leading? Well you’re not alone! I know exactly what it’s like to wish that things would just slow down, that life wasn’t quite as stressful. The constant demands of everyday life can leave us feeling frazzled, exhausted and overwhelmed. We muddle through from one day to the next, never quite achieving the things we set out to do. Sooner or later we become frustrated. Eventually, we get to the point where we can’t take it anymore and things have to change. We might not know what we need to change or how to go about it, but we know that something has to give.
So where do we start?
How do we slow things down and make life a little bit less stressful? How do we reduce the overwhelm and ramp up the quality of our lives? Regardless of the struggles you might be facing, there are a few things you can do to make a change for the better. Things that will help make life a little happier and (relatively!) stress-free. I say “relatively” because let’s face it, life is never going to be 100% stress-free is it?! But that shouldn’t stop us from taking steps to make things a little easier – and that’s what this series is all about!
The four pillars to creating a life you love
You may have noticed that A Simple and Contented Life is made up of four key areas – Love Your Family, Love Your Home, Love Yourself and Love Your Life. The idea is that if you invest your time in the first three, you end up with the fourth. Sounds pretty simple right? Well, that’s because it is!
Changing things up to live a life you love really isn’t as hard as you might think. By addressing each of these areas in turn, by working out what frustrates you and making a few tweaks here and there, you CAN lead a happier life. This series looks at the first three areas in more detail and come the end, you’ll be armed with a host of easily actionable steps to take. Steps that’ll help you kick-start loving your family, your home AND yourself so that you LOVE your life.
Now I’m not saying your life isn’t already great. I’m sure there are parts of your life that you love. But I’m also betting there are parts you don’t like quite so much? Things you wish you could improve and things you wish you could change?
Well, this series is going to help you do just that!
It’s going to help you reduce the overwhelm, take back control and find time for the things that really matter. But before we dive into the good stuff, let’s take a quick look at the first three pillars in a bit more detail:
Pillar One – Love your family
This area is all about loving the way you live your life together as a family. It’s about being happy with the way your little unit functions and operates. It’s about recognising what’s really important and shifting your priorities so you have more time together. That you finally start ticking things off your ever-growing bucket list. That your kids have a childhood they look back on with a smile.
In part three of this series, you will find some great tips on how to make family life run a little smoother. I reveal the four steps you can take to find the balance between getting things done and having quality time together.
Pillar Two – Love your home
This area is all about loving the home you share with your family. It’s about making your house a home and making the space you have work for you. It’s about creating routines that make home life run a little easier. Routines that allow you to stay on track, get things done and keep your home clean and tidy.
In part four of this series, I reveal the five things you can do to love your home that little bit more. I’ll be sharing a few ways you can make the best of the space you have and how to make your home feel like your own.
Pillar Three – Love yourself
This is probably the most important area of them all! We know self-care should be high on our list of priorities. But we are so busy taking care of everyone else it often gets pushed to the bottom of the list.
Loving yourself is all about adding self-care to your daily routine and not feeling guilty about it. It’s about finding time for the things that make you happy. It’s about setting goals and actually achieving them – goals that are for you, not anybody else. Goals that focus on your own wellbeing and personal development.
In part five, the last part of this series, I explain why you need to take better care of yourself. I’ll be sharing ways to find time to make your own wellbeing a priority and ways to avoid burnout.
