Trying to make a change for the better but not seeing the progress you’d like? Frustrated by always taking one step forwards and two steps back? Maybe it’s time to hire a life coach! Not convinced? Here are 7 reasons why you need a life coach in your life.
Let me ask you a question…
What’s easier, working towards your goals by yourself through trial and error, taking one step forwards and two steps back? Or seeking the guidance and direction of someone who has been there and done it already and knows what works?
The answer is obvious for me.
When you seek the advice of someone who has been through it all before, you can avoid the same mistakes, focus your time and energy on what truly works and get there a whole lot faster than trying to do it by yourself.
I’ve invested in several coaches over the years – both for my business and my personal life – and not only have they helped me figure out who I am and what I want but they’ve shown me the path I need to take to create a life I love and they’ve held me accountable along the way too.
That’s the power of a coach!
Imagine yourself with a set plan and just the right advice. Advice from someone who has been there and got the t-shirt. Someone who has figured out what works and what doesn’t. Someone who knows exactly what to do when faced with obstacles standing in your path or when you’re struggling to stay motivated and focused.
Hiring a life coach can shave years off the time it would have taken you to reach your goals when working on them by yourself.
But what if you’re not sure whether a life coach is right for you?
Do you really need a life coach and why should you hire one? Here are seven reasons why you should hire a life coach.

Seven reasons why you should hire a life coach…
Reason #1. You get to call the shots
A life coach doesn’t tell you what to do. They’re there to help guide you along the way. They’re your life coach, so you get to call the shots! And so, you get to decide how you’d like to use your coach. Want help with short-term goals, long-term goals or a specific area of your life that you want to focus on? You get to choose. Simply share with your coach what you want to accomplish and they’ll help you develop a plan to make it happen.
Reason #2. A life coach provides you with a guided plan
Sure, you can draft up a plan of what you need to do to become a better version of yourself by yourself but when you write out your plans with the help of a coach, you know you’re getting a realistic plan that works. Your coach will not only help you to validate your plan but they’ll know the shortcuts to help you accomplish what you want to accomplish faster – and they’ll help you stay accountable as well.
Reason #3. A life coach helps you to deal with conflicts
A life coach can help you to cope with any current conflicts and tensions in your life as well as any that arise during your journey to making a change for the better. They can also give you tips on how to avoid similar situations in the future so that you can deal with them head-on.
Reason #4. A life coach will help you to deal with challenges
It goes without saying that when trying to make a change for the better, things won’t always go according to plan. There will be stumbling blocks and obstacles along the way that you need to overcome. When you hit a snag, your life coach will help you overcome the challenge and steer you back in the right direction. You’ll be able to rest easy knowing that you’re receiving expert guidance, no matter what life throws your way.
Reason #5. You’ll benefit from personal attention
The whole point of hiring a life coach is that you get access to one-on-one attention so that you can be personally guided along your chosen path – whatever that path might be. And should you run into struggles along the way, your life coach will be there to provide any support, suggestions and guidance you might need.
Reason #6. A life coach builds confidence
When you’re working with a life coach you can rest assured that you are under the guidance of someone who has already achieved the results you are looking for. A life coach can help you identify goals that are not only realistic but attainable and when you accomplish them, your confidence will grow too.
Reason #7. A life coach will give you a new zest for life
Enthusiasm is infectious. Your coach will have a great deal of enthusiasm for their work and that will naturally rub off on you. Whatever it is you want to change or improve, your life coach will be rooting for you and they will be your cheerleader. Sure, there may be times where you find it hard to stay motivated and inspired but you’ll always have your coach to turn to and seek inspiration from.

Want to know how to choose and hire a life coach that’s right for you? Here are a few tips to get you started:
Tip #1. Make sure your life coach has credentials and experience in the field you’re looking for help with
Coaching might still at present remain an unregulated industry but it’s worth making sure that when hiring a life coach, they have experience in the area you want to make a change in.
For example, as a certified master life coach, I have 40 years of life experience and have been coaching and mentoring others in one way or another for the best part of the last 20 years. I also hold certifications in professional life coaching, life purpose, transformation, happiness, goal success and rational emotive behaviour therapy (REBT). Be sure to check the credentials and experience of your life coach before you hire them.
Tip #2. Find testimonials and reviews about potential coaches
Ask around and try to talk to someone else who has been coached by the life coach you are considering hiring. After all, a good referral is always more trusted! Here are just some of the testimonials I’ve received:
“Sarah, where have you been all my life!! You are such a wonderfully bright giving light. You really are so awesome! Your voice is so needed in the world!” – Carisa.
“Sarah is so very helpful, loving and encouraging. She can help in every area of life, whether it’s your home, your family, or yourself. Even when you have no idea where to start, she can give you a plan and help get out of being stuck. With her wonderful, kind and encouraging way, she’s there for you and you feel safe and seen.” – Annika.
“Can I just take a moment to thank you so very much for your amazing strength and incredible sense of focus. I learned everything in a very different way and quite late in life…so THANK YOU very much for your positivity, strength love and focus!!!” – Parissa.
Tip #3. Communicate with your potential coach and see what her communication style is like
Follow your potential coach on social media, join her Facebook group and watch what she publishes for a few weeks to see if you like her communication style and if you think she’s what you’re looking for. Better still, reach out to her by sending her an email or DM-ing her on Instagram.
I personally love receiving messages from potential clients who are taking the time to connect and see if we’d be a good fit for one another. It means they’re invested in investing in themselves and they’re willing to make the changes they want to make – no matter how scary they might be!

Tip #4. Make sure your coaching sessions will be conducted in a format that you find comfortable
These days with technology like it is, we can communicate in many different ways. Coaching sessions can take place over the phone, by email, by video conferencing using Zoom or Google Hangouts, or in-person. Ask yourself how you prefer meeting and whether how your potential life coach conducts her sessions will work for you.
The majority of my clients are overseas. With clients in the US, Europe and the UK, I prefer to conduct my coaching sessions via Zoom video calls. And the bonus to me conducting my sessions this way is that you get lifetime access to the recordings of the calls – both in video and audio format – so that you can listen to them over and over again!
